A different kind of test
Data-driven decision making –
a better experience for patient and clinician.
The first best test for cancer
The PinPoint Test is a clinical decision support tool offering intelligent triage for patients based on their individual risk of cancer.
It is designed to be the first best test for cancer when a patient presents with symptoms, increasing confidence in decision making for the patient at that critical early stage.

Latest Developments
Publication in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health
Peer-reviewed results of PinPoint’s 5-year NHS service evaluation now available, 9 different algorithms assessed in NHS urgent suspected cancer pathways. Read the paper here:
Asymptomatic Lung screening
PinPoint has recently completed work on validating our Lung cancer algorithm for use in asymptomatic patients as part of Manchester’s qUEST study and lung health check programme with Professor Phil Crosbie. Results to follow soon.
PinPoint Upper GI Test
Exciting new interim results for PinPoint’s Upper GI test are in. The test detects cancers such as Liver, Stomach, Oesophageal and Pancreatic, many of which are often detected too late and suffer poor survival rates.
PinPoint Lower GI Test
A pilot scheme is due to start later this year, using the PinPoint test to help patients suspected of Bowel cancer for the first time. The pilot is funded by Innovate UK and means 9000 patients will benefit from PinPoint intelligent triage.
NHS Service Evaluation
Over 16,000 tests done in full real-world conditions as part of PinPoint’s NHS Service Evaluation in West Yorkshire, England.
Fact: The service evaluation is designed to test if PinPoint performs in the real world as well as claimed when the Test was first developed.
How does it work?
One draw of blood is taken as normal and processed in a standard pathology lab. 30 standard analytes plus age and sex – a total of 32 data points – are sent to PinPoint algorithms hosted on a local provider-owned server.
A result is instantly returned to the clinician indicating a risk score for cancer.
Results will be returned with a ‘Red, Amber, Green’ (RAG) system for recommended course of action:
Green – Low risk (rule-out)
Amber – Average risk (continue standard assessment)
Red – High risk (prioritise)
Thresholds can be customised to suit the use case, based on population, cancer prevalence or the type of challenges faced in local healthcare systems. See details below.
PinPoint helps the patient, the doctor and the whole healthcare system…
Rule Out
- Peace of mind for patients and their doctors, without the need for exhaustive testing and anxious waits.
- Managing capacity in healthcare systems to avoid overloading of diagnostic services.
- Safely reduced number of patients being investigated without increasing the risk of false negatives.
Prioritisation
- Transform the first-come first-served system to one that manages patient flow by individual risk.
- Shorten the timeline to confirmed diagnosis and start of treatment.
- Make cancer services more resilient to system shocks like COVID-19, so that even under extreme pressure cancer services maintain focus on high-risk patients.
What cancers do we test for?
PinPoint is building tests for 5 priority cancer groups
The test for each pathway has been undergoing an NHS service evaluation to see how the test performs in the real world. Over 17,000 tests have been completed, revealing some very exciting results, meaning the first versions of the test are now becoming available for deployment.
