Why have I been asked to have a PinPoint Test? What do I need to do?

If your doctor has asked you to have a PinPoint blood test, it’s because they are worried that some of your symptoms might be related to cancer. In most cases, its unlikely to be cancer, but PinPoint helps establish whether or not you would benefit from a hospital appointment with a specialist.

All you need to do is have a quick blood test and wait for the results to come back to your doctor. They will take care of the rest.

If the result suggests you should see a specialist, the PinPoint Test could help you get that appointment faster. If the result shows you are at very low risk, you can rest easy and go back to your family doctor or GP about the next best steps.

I’ve heard a lot about AI, is my information safe if I have a PinPoint test?

PinPoint uses something called ‘machine learning’ to develop the algorithms behind the test. It is a type of AI ideal for identifying patterns in huge datasets but does not have access to any personal information. Everything is anonymous and kept within your healthcare provider’s firewall. PinPoint AI is very different to the kind you might have heard about in products like Google, ChatGPT or even Amazon Alexa, where ‘large language models’ learn from your choices as you use them. The software behind the PinPoint Test is fixed so the result is standardised and always the same, wherever you have your blood test. Upgrades to the product are done manually, using machine learning as a tool to make a better and better test. If you would like more detail on how our technology works, you can find it on the clinical page.
